Join us at SAMA's Annual Ayurveda Health Counselor Internship (Gurukulum) located at Yogaville Ashram in Buckingham, Virginia on Oct 30th-Nov 2nd, 2017! Plan to arrive at 108 Yogaville Way Buckingham, Virginia on Oct 29th, 2017 to settle in. Plan to leave Nov 3rd, 2017 or stay to recharge with some Ayurvedic bodywork at the Riverview Spa and indulge in the beauty of the ashram a little longer on your own.
Expect to meet some impressive and inspirational experts in the field of the Veda and learn the many ways to understand and analyze the concepts of prakruti, vikruti and chikitsa (constitutional assessments & remedial measures) during the client/therapist dynamic. Immerse yourself in the Vedic culture of Yogaville Ashram, attend puja ceremonies, yoga classes, amazing vegan food and inhale the magical shakti of nature that supports this gorgeous location! Establish life-long friendships with your classmates and the kindred spirits of this community! All SAMA students must attend in person to be eligible for graduation, unless an exemption has been provided. All students will have the opportunity to be a "client" during the 4 days at least once and learn more about their dosha and individual constitution!
Four-Day Internship: $550:
Not including lodging, food or travel. PACE credits pending approval from NAMA. Deadline for SAMA Citrine students to pay is July 1st, 2017. After July 1st, an administrative late fee will be applied at $50 per each month late. Deadline for Non-Citrine students to pay is Oct 1st, 2017. $50 administrative late fee will be applied after that.
Shared rooms with a shared bath: $67.50 /night including all meals. $337.50/ 4 nights. Private rooms with private baths: $126/night including all meals. $630/ 4 nights.
Deadline to reserve and pay for your accommodations is Oct 1st, 2017. $50 administrative late fee will be applied after that. The above rates are group rates.
Students are responsible for making their own travel plans. Amtrak is very affordable from the RI area to Charlottesville, VA (1 hour from the ashram) at $77 one way if reserved in advance. Hurry to book that! Otherwise, fly into the Charlottesville, Va Airport. The ashram will pick students up at the station for $45 each way from 9am – 8pm and $55.00 from 8pm – 9:30pm if pre-arranged. If you need Ashram transportation from Charlottesville, it is necessary to confirm your travel needs at least 10 days prior to arrival. Transportation to Charlottesville is served by Amtrak, Greyhound, NYC Shuttle or the following airlines: US Air, United, American Airlines and Delta.
Prerequisites for Attendance:
Graduate from a NAMA or APPNA (or equivalent) approved school or 1-year experience in one of the Vedic sciences (yoga, vastu, jyotish). This internship fulfills the NAMA requirements for 25 supervised and 25 unsupervised Client/Therapist Consultations

2p-6p: Karyn Chabot, M. Ay, LMT, RYT will be leading one-on-one Ayurvedic Consultations in front of the students. Karyn is the owner of SAMA and The Newport Massage School and has a unique way of blending Jyotish, divination and classic Ayurvedic diagnostics. She's a graduate of Dr. Vasant Lad's Ayurveda Health Program 1997 with a masters degree in art of Ayurveda. She's been an Ayurvedic counselor for 17 years, is a licensed massage therapist for 18 years and nationally certified yoga teacher since 2001. She's been a student of Jyotish for over 15 years. SAMA's Internship Curriculum
Day One: 9a-12:30p: Dr. Munira Merchant will be leading one-on-one Ayurvedic Consultations in front of the students. She is an Ayurvedic graduate (B.S.A.M.) Panch Karma specialist and Ayurvedic cosmetologist from India. She has been practicing and teaching Ayurveda for about 30 years, first in India and then in U.S.A. Dr. Munira uses ancient Ayurvedic techniques such as pulse reading, aura reading and physical characteristics, advice on self healing through individualized diet, gentle detoxification through Panch Karma, life style modifications, stress management, daily and seasonal routines, yoga and meditation that are helpful in variety of conditions like Arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, digestive disorders, allergies, asthma, sinusitis, skin ailments, weight problems, stress, anxiety, memory problems, hair loss and more. Dr. Merchant is also a New York State licensed Esthetician and advises on beauty problems. She can also provide guidance on therapeutic use of gems, colors, and aroma oils. Visit her website here.
Day Two: 9a-6p: Meet Sham-Rang Khalsa, MD, a rare mix of western medicine physician and eastern medicine healer certified in acupuncture, Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, and Ayurveda. Visit his website here. Witness one-on-one Ayurvedic client sessions with him. Dr. Khalsa has a unique, progressive homeopathic approach to Ayurvedic diagnosis and remedies! He possesses the talent of understanding the complex intricacies of the physical body which he has learned as an emergency room medical doctor, and the energetic patterns and responses influenced by thoughts, environments, and emotions.

Day Three: 9a-1p: Michael Dick, a renown Ayurvedic consultant and owner of the Dhanvantari Ayurveda Center in Leesburg, Florida. He helped edit Dr. Vasant Lad's textbook's Volume 1 and is a Transcendental Meditation Sidha . Michael completed a 2-year master's level Ayurveda program at MIIVS, Cambridge, Mass and trained and worked at the Lancaster Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center, under the guidance of Deepak Chopra, MD., Jay Glaser, MD, and John Douillard, DC, giving panchakarma treatments, lecturing and teaching Ayurvedic principles of health to hundreds of guests. He continued studying and teaching for the next 10 years with Dr. Vasant Lad, BAMS, MASc., at The Ayurvedic Institute, Albuquerque, NM.
2p-6p Gauri Eleanora Trainor is a graduate from the prestigious California College of Ayurveda, in Nevada City, California, and is a certified Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and Pancha Karma Specialist. She is also a Vedic astrologer and holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Psychology and Anthropology from Montclair University. She brings with her 15 years of professional experience in mental health counseling, 7 years of professional experience as a Clinical Ayurvedic Practitioner, and 10 years of experience in Ayurvedic Body Work. She has recently retired as a Massage Therapist. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher, with certified training in Ayurvedic Yoga from the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas and the Sivananda Freehold Yoga Center where she found her spiritual teacher, Reverend Jaganath Carrera. She has traveled to India for continued herbal studies at the Lord Dhanvantari Dham Hospital in Vrindavan under the tutelage of Dr. Laladher Gupta. Learn more about Gauri here.

Day Four: 9a-6p: Meet Molly Rachael Strong, CAP BS TTM BCTMB RYT LPN. Molly is the owner and Indigenous Healing Arts Institute and has been practicing allopathic and natural healing arts for over twenty years, thirteen of which have been dedicated to Ayurvedic Medicine, Traditional Thai Medicine, and all modalities of yoga, massage, bodywork, and phytotherapy (plant-based medicine). She is currently an esteemed faculty member of the Sacred Stone Academy of Massage and Ayurveda as well as running the first completely natural medical clinic in Powhatan County, specializing in preventive healthcare and Ayurveda oncology treatments.
7p-9-p: Optional: Dr. Michael Sullivan, Chiropractor, Ayurvedic Practitioner and Owner of Riverview Ayurvedic Spa. Students will visit his Ayurvedic spa and witness a mini pancha karma session! He has unique Ayurvedic diagnostic techniques based on his chiropractic clinical experience. Yogaville's Travel Info
There is no public transportation from Charlottesville or Richmond to Yogaville.
You may wish to rent your own car or contact the Ashram Reservation Center at (800) 858-9642 to arrange transportation to the Ashram.
Yogaville is not able to provide pickup/drop-off service for any city but Charlottesville.
The standard fee for transportation is: $45 each way 9am – 8pm and $55.00 8pm – 9:30pm.
Transportation to Charlottesville is served by Amtrak, Greyhound, NYC Shuttle or the following airlines: US Air, United, American Airlines and Delta.
If you need Ashram transportation from Charlottesville, it is necessary to confirm your travel needs at least 10 days prior to arrival.
RENTAL CARS: Avis, Budget, and Hertz rental car companies are located at the Charlottesville Airport.
Yogaville's Pick-up Refund Policy:
A full refund of the transportation charge is available if you give us notice of your change of plans at least 3 days (72 hours) in advance.
If you give notice with less than 72 hours, a $10 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund.
The transportation charge is not refundable if the request is cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice
SAMA's Refund Policy:
No refunds after Sept 1st, 2017. Any refunds prior to Sept 1st, 2017 will incur a $108 administrative fee.
SAMA is not responsible for any problems or issues with Yogaville's housing. If students have sensitivities, physical challenges, food allergies or any other issues involving housing, sleep, wheel chair needs and food, all registrants and students are responsible for calling Yogaville in advance to arrange for special accommodations to make sure needs are met. SAMA waves all responsibilities regarding these needs, though we want all students to feel comfortable and happy, it is up to students to create their own comfort prior to arrival.
